Role of inflammation in the human skeletal muscle response to eccentric exercise
-effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) |
| Research area |
| The
overall focus of my research is to elucidate the role of inflammation in human
skeletal muscle adaptation and maintenance. The research aims are to understand
the role of inflammation in the loss of muscle mass observed with ageing (sarcopenia)
and chronic disease (cachexia), and the effect of exercise/training and feeding.
Focus of these investigations is: -muscle stem cells termed satellite cells (in vivo and in vitro) -protein synthesis (anabolic resistance with aging –how is this affected by inflammation?) -and intracellular signalling affecting these outcomes |
